Order tagging
As an alternative to creating Shopify fulfillments, Scan to Ship can also be configured to tag the Shopify orders as “packed” so that the fulfillment can be created later, either via the Shopfiy admin area or via a third-party shipping app or service.
If you use Shopify’s built-in shipping label purchase feature, you will usually need to use Scan to Ship’s order tagging option (rather than fulfillment creation) as Shopify does not allow purchasing of shipping labels for existing fulfillments.
Purchasing shipping with courier apps
Many third-party shipping apps (e.g. DHLApp, Shippo, RoyalMail Click & Go, and many more) can automatically create the fulfillment in Shopify for you (much as Scan to Ship can). If this is the case, the order tagging action may work best for your warehouse operation. You’ll use Scan to Ship to scan and verify the order contents, and to then tag the order as “packed” in Shopify. You can then use the shipping app of your choice (or Shopify directly) to create the fulfillment and purchase the shipping label for you.
If purchasing and printing shipping labels in batches, the workfalow will look as follows:
- “Start shipping” in Scan to Ship.
- Scan all products successfully in Scan to Ship.
- Choose “tag order” as the action (if not configured as the default).
- Repeat for each order in your shipping batch.
- In Shopify admin, filter open orders by “packed” to identify packed orders.
- Follow the steps of your shipping app
You might also want to purchase a shipping label for each individual order straight after packing. If that’s the case, check out our “Automated Tabs” feature which you can use to have a new browser tab opened for your label purchase right after packing.
